After feeding him consistently on our property and getting him neutered a few months later, Buster decided to give us humans a chance and warmed right up! He then craved constant attention from us, appearing to be quite lonely outside, which is when we transitioned him indoors with the other cats. Safe to say, he is now loving his newfound companions and is such a sweet boy who loves belly rubs.

The other cats absolutely adore him and once he warms up to you, he loves chin scratches.

She was very thin, but also very affectionate, wanting pets over food. After bringing her to the vet and trying to locate her owner to no avail, she then became a resident here at the sanctuary. Now that Sweetie has healed, she is much more of an independent lady, often cautious around the cats, but loves her people.

Valencia is one of the original “Barn Lions” that were living on the property upon our arrival. She has always been the most social of our kitty crew, and she is the first cat I have ever bonded with! Valencia prefers humans over cats and will sit right at the dinner table with you if you let her.

It took him almost 2 years before he allowed us to pet him, but ever since that moment, he has turned into a complete love bug. Goldie is one of the original “Barn Lions” that were living on the property upon our arrival. She is the epitome of what a majestic, Barn Lion looks like. We named her Goldie because of her striking gold eyes. Goldie is more of an independent soul and always has been, though she does enjoy companionship from the other cats on occasion.

We adopted Tofey in 2020 after he was trapped and taken in by a rescue group in Albany. Tofey’s exact history is unknown, but we do know he was living on the streets of the inner city, fending for himself by eating out of trash bags. We saw a Facebook post that Tofey needed a barn home with other cats, so we reached out, and the rest was history. Over the years, Tofey has remained quite fearful of humans, though he has made great progress in his own way. He has gained confidence, overcome illness, transitioned to the indoors, and has formed close bonds with the other cats.

Spice was born in a horse barn from a cat colony a few towns over. She came to us as a kitten and has been with us ever since. Spice lives up to her name as she can be sweet as pie one minute and spicy the next. She is by far our best hunter and our fastest kitty. Fun fact: Spice is polydactyl (has thumbs)!

Maci randomly showed up on our property in the winter of 2022 and never left. He was very fearful of humans for the first year. Over time, we were able to earn his trust, get him neutered, and he has blossomed from there. Maci has had one of the biggest transformation out of any of the cats. Over time, we were able to earn his trust, get him neutered, and he has blossomed from there. Maci has had one of the biggest transformation out of any of the cats. He went from living out in the barn by himself, far away from the other cats and people, to now being our most affectionate boy to both cats and humans.

Beaux & his sister, Peep, were born into a cat colony a few towns over. We took them in as kittens and were shocked to see how big they grew up to be. Beaux is our 18 lb. wild child and allows affection on his terms and his terms only. While he does have bursts of energy throughout the day, he also loves a good cuddle puddle, often placing himself smack dab in the middle.

Peep & her brother, Beaux, were born into a cat colony a few towns over, and we took them in as kittens at about 10 weeks old. Peep is a lot more reserved than her brother. She can be nervous around new people and fast movements, but she constantly craves affection from the other kitties. Like her brother, she almost always has to be cuddled up with another cat.

Sammy & his brother, Petey, came to us from our neighbor. Our neighbor had taken them both in from a cruelty case back in the day, but was moving and unable to take them along. Sammy has always had such a sweet temperament, but also, in true donkey form, can be quite stubborn. After the loss of his brother, we knew he needed a new companion, and that is when we found Molly. Their bond has been a beautiful development over the years.

Molly came to us at a critical time. Her previous owners were going through a divorce and needed to find her a new home. At the same time, we were grieving the loss of Sammy’s brother and knew he needed a new companion to ease his heartbreak. At the same time, we were grieving the loss of Sammy’s brother and knew he needed a new companion to ease his heartbreak. After meeting Molly and seeing how sweet she was, we knew she would be the perfect buddy for our Sammy. Sure enough, they bonded very quickly and haven’t left each others sides since.

Billy and his brother, Vinny, were surrendered to us after their former owner became ill and was no longer able to care for them. Billy definitely tries to be the “top dog” of the herd. He is not shy when food is involved and is no stranger to jumping the fence. Despite these qualities, Billy does enjoy a good scratching and is very playful (after feeding time of course).

Vinny (aka Vincent Van Goat) and his brother, Billy, were surrendered to us after their former owner became ill and was no longer able to care for them. Vinny is our all white goat, though in the cold months he becomes multi colored due to his winter coat. He also was born with a deformity; his one horn grows back towards his skull, meaning we have to routinely keep it trimmed to prevent injury.

Alfalfa came to us after he started head-butting the children at his previous home. He was surrendered with his sister, Darla. You may see that Alfalfa has a funny wobble/walk, and this is because he fractured his femur last year and had to have emergency surgery at Cornell. They thankfully were able to save his leg, though he now has a permanent “strut.” Alfalfa is currently our most social goat.

Darla was surrendered to us along with her brother, Alfalfa, after he started trying to head butt the small children in the home. Darla is very shy and can be quite reserved, but if you go slow, she will come around (especially for treats). She also may be small, but she is fast when she wants to be!
